• The video premiered in April 2014, shortly before RZ Records released "Dissident Song" as a single on April 14, 2014.

• The imagery was filmed largely around the white cliffs of Dover. The location gives the video its severe, open-ended look, with the coastline functioning less as a setting than as an emotional landscape.

• Rudi Zygadlo described the song as being written from the perspective of an artist living under an artistically repressive regime. The central idea is the unsettling realization that, after gaining complete freedom, the artist may no longer know what to rebel against.

• The track marked a major shift from Zygadlo's earlier electronic work, which was often associated with dubstep. Here, the arrangement is built primarily around piano and layered vocals, with little emphasis on synths.
