David Guetta feat. Sia - She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

A wounded wolf flees across Iceland's stark, snow-covered landscape while a group of hunters closes in. The animal appears to possess supernatural powers: whenever the song hits its major breakdowns, the hunters and parts of the surrounding terrain burst apart into showers of tiny digital polygons. The chase grows increasingly surreal as the boundary between flesh, blood, landscape and computer-generated fragments disappears. In the final moments, the wolf transforms back into the naked woman seen at the beginning, revealing the two figures as one.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed on location in Iceland, including Langjokull and the Reykjanes area around Krysuvik and Reykjanesviti.
  • The label's brief was unusually open. Its main requirements were a narrative-driven video with no appearance by David Guetta or Sia.
  • The production deliberately contrasted Iceland's organic landscapes with what the creative team described as a "violently digital" visual-effects style.
  • Visual-effects creative director Brandon Hirtzel traveled to Iceland with the crew so the polygon effects could be developed alongside the location footage. This was especially useful given the compressed schedule typical of music-video production.
  • The production company was Pegasus Pictures, with Jonathan Wang producing. Icelandic crew members were brought in to supplement the core team from abroad.
  • Shooting in nature also involved live animals, which the production team described as unpredictable but useful for creating spontaneous-looking footage.
  • Although a trailer announced October 3, 2012 as the premiere date, the official video appeared on David Guetta's VEVO channel on September 28, 2012.
  • The combination of violence, blood and nudity led to a "not advised for kids under 10 years" warning when the video was broadcast in France.
