Synopsis

Blinded as a child by a radioactive chemical accident, Matt Murdock develops heightened senses that allow him to perceive the world through a radar-like awareness. By day, he works as a lawyer in Hell's Kitchen; by night, he becomes Daredevil, pursuing criminals while confronting the ruthless Kingpin, the assassin Bullseye, and the dangerous Elektra.

Factoids & Trivia

• Ben Affleck wore heavy-duty contact lenses for Daredevil's opaque eyes. The lenses blocked most of his vision, making movement and action scenes especially difficult.

• During the fight between Daredevil and Elektra, Jennifer Garner accidentally kicked Affleck hard enough to briefly knock him unconscious.

• Michael Clarke Duncan reportedly weighed 305 pounds when he was cast as the Kingpin and added at least 20 pounds to better match the character's massive comic-book physique.

• Affleck was already a fan of Daredevil and read every comic book featuring the character while preparing for the role. He also wrote the foreword for a collected edition of Kevin Smith's Daredevil comics.

• The film includes several comic-book-related cameos. Stan Lee appears as an elderly man, Frank Miller is briefly seen as a victim, and Kevin Smith plays a lab assistant named Kirby, a reference to comic-book artist Jack Kirby.

• Principal photography took place from March 1 through August 6, 2002, with filming in Los Angeles and New York City.

• The Marvel logo at the beginning is accompanied by the sound of turning pages, an unusual touch connected to the film's blind superhero and his heightened perception.

• The soundtrack album, Daredevil: The Album, emphasized contemporary alternative rock and was released in February 2003 alongside the film's theatrical release.
