Synopsis

In a near-future world where animals and pets can be cloned but human cloning is illegal, helicopter pilot Adam Gibson returns home to discover that someone has taken his place. Hunted by assassins and cut off from his family, Adam uncovers a corporate conspiracy involving illegal cloning, forcing him to confront a duplicate of himself and fight to reclaim his identity.

• The title refers to the biblical creation narrative, in which humanity is created on the sixth day.

• The film's opening sequence presents a fictional history of cloning breakthroughs. It echoes the real-world announcement of Dolly the sheep's cloning in 1997, while changing the names of the scientists and institution.

• The story also moves the completion of the Human Genome Project forward to June 26, 2000, even though the real project was completed in April 2003.

• The 6th Day marked Terry Crews' film debut.

• Joe Dante was initially attached to the project before the production moved forward with its eventual creative team.
