Synopsis

After a one-night stand, carefree slacker Ben Stone learns that ambitious television personality Alison Scott is pregnant. Although they barely know each other, Alison decides to continue the pregnancy, and Ben tries to become a responsible partner and future father. Their uneasy arrangement brings both families, friends, and personal insecurities into a messy, funny test of commitment and adulthood.

• The story was partly inspired by writer Judd Apatow's experiences surrounding the birth of his first daughter, Maude. Several scenes reportedly draw from real incidents, including arguments with doctors and the chaotic trip to the hospital.

• The children playing Debbie and Pete's daughters are Maude and Iris Apatow, the real-life daughters of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann.

• The project was initially conceived as a follow-up to The 40-Year-Old Virgin, with the same group of friends potentially reprising their roles.

• Ken Jeong made his film debut as a doctor. Jeong was also a practicing physician before pursuing acting full time.

• Anne Hathaway was originally cast as Alison but left the production after disagreements over the planned childbirth footage.
