Synopsis

With Captain Jack Sparrow trapped in Davy Jones' Locker, the remaining pirate crews form an uneasy alliance to rescue him. Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa seek help from the pirate lords and prepare for a final confrontation with Lord Cutler Beckett, who controls Davy Jones and threatens to eliminate piracy from the seas.

• The film was produced alongside Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, with the two sequels sharing a large-scale, back-to-back production.

• Reported production costs reached approximately $300 million, making it the most expensive film ever made at the time of its release.

• The Singapore sequence was filmed on a large Universal Studios backlot set containing dozens of structures inside a water tank. The filmmakers used an expressionist design influenced by 18th-century Chinese and Malaysian cities.

• Davy Jones' Locker was filmed at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats and given a largely monochromatic appearance to distinguish it from the colorful settings elsewhere in the series.

• The climactic maelstrom battle was staged inside a converted aircraft hangar in Palmdale, California. The slanted ship sets were surrounded by water, and performers wore wetsuits beneath their costumes.
