Synopsis

Twelve-year-old inventor Lewis hopes his Memory Scanner will reveal why his birth mother left him. When a mysterious boy from the future arrives, Lewis is drawn into a time-traveling adventure involving a stolen invention, a sinister bowler hat, and the eccentric Robinson family. Along the way, he discovers that embracing failure and moving forward may be the key to his future.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film is loosely based on William Joyce's 1990 picture book A Day with Wilbur Robinson. Disney initially acquired the book as the basis for a live-action project before developing it as an animated feature.

• Production began in June 2004 under the working title A Day with Wilbur Robinson. The release was initially planned for 2006, but the film eventually opened on March 30, 2007.

• Meet the Robinsons was released in both standard theaters and Disney Digital 3-D. Its 3-D version played on more than 600 screens.

• The visual design combines William Joyce's retro sensibility with influences from Technicolor movies, 1940s architecture, and the sleek industrial styling associated with Apple products.

• Lewis was voiced by two different boys during production. Recording lasted long enough for the original performer to sound noticeably older, so additional lines were recorded with another performer whose voice closely matched the earlier recordings.

• The song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" comes from Disney's Carousel of Progress attraction. Its use links the film's optimistic view of the future with one of the company's most recognizable celebrations of technological progress.
