Synopsis

Former Marine scout sniper Bob Lee Swagger is living in seclusion after a disastrous mission overseas. Recruited to prevent an assassination attempt on the President, he soon discovers that he has been set up as the fall guy. Hunted by law enforcement and betrayed by the people who hired him, Swagger relies on his survival skills to expose a larger conspiracy and clear his name.

• The film is based on Stephen Hunter's 1993 novel Point of Impact, the first book to feature Bob Lee Swagger.

• The novel spent roughly twelve years in development before reaching the screen. Several screenwriters worked on earlier versions, while Jonathan Lemkin's adaptation ultimately moved the project forward.

• The film changes Swagger's military background from a Vietnam-era career in the novel to service in Africa during the 1990s. This adjustment better suited the age of the leading performer.

• Former U.S. Marine scout sniper Patrick Garrity advised the production and helped train Mark Wahlberg in sniper techniques.

• Wahlberg reportedly lost about 20 pounds for the role, aiming for the lean physical appearance associated with a field sniper.
