Synopsis

In rural England, spirited Elizabeth Bennet clashes with the proud and reserved Mr. Darcy while her family pursues advantageous marriages. As misunderstandings, social pressures, and romantic complications accumulate, Elizabeth must reconsider her first impressions and Darcy must confront his own arrogance. Their growing attraction challenges the class expectations and emotional defenses separating them.

Factoids & Trivia

  • This is the 2005 feature film adaptation of Jane Austen's *Pride and Prejudice*, not the film titled *Pride*. IMDb ID tt0414387 identifies the Austen adaptation.
  • The production was filmed entirely on location in the United Kingdom, using historic estates and gardens including Chatsworth House, Basildon Park, Burghley House, Groombridge Place, and Stourhead.
  • Chatsworth House serves as Pemberley, while Basildon Park represents Netherfield. Burghley House was used for Rosings Park, and Groombridge Place became the Bennet family home at Longbourn.
  • The filmmakers aimed for a more youthful, energetic, and tactile version of the story than the stately Austen adaptations that preceded it. The moving camera is especially prominent during balls and crowded family scenes.
  • The film was the first feature adaptation of the novel in 65 years, following the 1940 MGM version.
  • Local people and members of a Napoleonic re-enactment society were used to give the village and militia scenes a stronger period atmosphere.
