Synopsis

Traveling sales representative Joanna Mills is plagued by vivid visions of a brutal murder that happened fifteen years earlier. As the nightmares grow more intense, she follows their clues to a remote Texas farmhouse and begins uncovering a disturbing connection between the dead woman, her own childhood, and the unresolved trauma buried in her past.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The screenplay was originally titled "Revolver." The name was changed during production after Guy Ritchie's film of the same title was released.
  • Principal photography took place in and around Austin, Texas, including Luling, Lockhart, Uhland, Taylor, and Granger. Several real locations were used for the farmhouse, hotel, bar, and small-town streets.
  • The film was shot on 35mm using the Super 35 process and presented in a widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio.
  • Although IMDb lists the production as a 2005 film, its United States theatrical release took place on November 10, 2006.
  • The Return was produced on an estimated $15 million budget and received mostly negative reviews, with critics often praising its atmosphere and cinematography while criticizing its slow pace and convoluted story.
