Synopsis

As John Kramer nears death from cancer, Amanda abducts surgeon Lynn Denlon and forces her to keep him alive while another victim, Jeff, undergoes a series of tests. Driven by grief and revenge over his young son's death, Jeff must confront the people he blames for the tragedy. The overlapping games expose the increasingly unstable relationship between Jigsaw and his apprentice.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The production borrowed the bathroom set from Scary Movie 4, which had recreated the setting from the earlier Saw films.
  • As with the previous entries, most performers were not given the complete script. Only those involved in the final scene received the full ending.
  • The brain-surgery sequence remained uncut in the theatrical version after the filmmakers argued that its medical presentation was comparable to material shown in documentaries.
  • The notorious Pig Vat sequence used only four prosthetic pigs, despite the scene's appearance of overwhelming numbers.
  • The film was edited seven times to secure an R rating from the MPAA.
  • Filming took place in Toronto, Ontario, from May 8 through June 19, 2006.
  • An unrated edition added several minutes of gore, while a longer Director's Cut released on October 23, 2007, included additional material and an alternate ending.
  • Saw III was the last film in the original trilogy connected to producer Gregg Hoffman, who died in 2005, before the movie's October 27, 2006, theatrical release.
