Synopsis

Retired superhero Jack Shepard is pulled back into the secret Zenith Project when a dangerous former teammate threatens to return. Recruited as a reluctant trainer, Jack must prepare four young recruits with unpredictable powers for battle while confronting his own bitter past. As the teenagers gain confidence and learn to work together, the troubled former hero begins to rediscover his purpose.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film is based on Jason Lethcoe's children's book Amazing Adventures from Zoom's Academy, originally published as Zoom's Academy for the Super Gifted.

• Tim Allen helped develop the initial screenplay. He later said the early version was considerably darker before the studio reshaped the project as a family film.

• Zoom was released theatrically in the United States on August 11, 2006, and was later issued on DVD under the expanded title Zoom: Academy for Superheroes.

• Made on a reported budget of approximately $75.6 million, the film earned about $12.5 million worldwide, making it a major commercial failure.

• The movie received largely negative reviews. It was nominated for a Worst Actor Razzie for Tim Allen and received several nominations and wins at the Stinkers Bad Movie Awards.

• Rupert Gregson-Williams was initially attached to compose the score but departed to work on Over the Hedge. Christophe Beck subsequently wrote the music.

• Although the film used numerous pop songs, no official soundtrack album was released.
