After a probation sentence sends rebellious street dancer Tyler Gage to perform community service at the Maryland School of the Arts, he meets classically trained dancer Nora Clark. When Nora's partner is injured, Tyler joins her in preparing an ambitious showcase piece. Their uneasy partnership challenges their assumptions about talent, privilege, friendship, and the possibility of changing their futures.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Filming took place in Baltimore, Maryland, including Booker T. Washington Middle School, which stood in for the Maryland School of the Arts.
  • The film was made on an estimated $12 million budget and became a strong commercial success, earning more than $114 million worldwide.
  • Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan met during production and married in 2009. Their relationship later became part of the film's lasting off-screen legacy.
