Synopsis
When three girls discover they have all been dating the same popular athlete, they join forces to expose his cheating and break his heart. They recruit Kate, a shy new student, to make John Tucker fall for her. As their elaborate revenge schemes escalate, Kate and the others discover that humiliating John may be easier than changing him - or dealing with their own rivalries.
Factoids & Trivia
- The story is a loose modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor," replacing Shakespeare's older comic seducer with a manipulative high school athlete.
- Most of the film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. Heritage Woods Secondary School in Port Moody stood in for the fictional Forest Hills High School.
- The school location provided more than a backdrop. The production used its facilities for over 30 sets, and much of the new decoration, equipment, and scenic work was left behind for the students.
- The film's school mascot was not created for the script. Because the real school was known as the Kodiaks, the production adopted the bear-themed identity for the movie.
- Fox, Wind-up Records, and MySpace organized an online contest for unsigned bands connected to the film's soundtrack. Rockett Queen won with "The Next Big Thing."
- The thong prank was reportedly added during production after an earlier script idea called for John to shave his head. Extras on set used their phones to photograph the gag.
- Jesse Metcalfe's three-point basketball shots were filmed without digital or editorial trickery; the shots credited to him were real.
