Synopsis

Lucas Nickle takes out his frustration on a nearby ant colony, flooding it with a water pistol. The ants respond by shrinking him to their size and bringing him underground, where he is sentenced to work alongside them. Forced to experience life from an ant's perspective, Lucas gradually learns about cooperation, responsibility, and the consequences of bullying.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The film is loosely based on John Nickle's 1999 children's book of the same name, though the movie expands the book's simple premise into a larger adventure story.
  • Tom Hanks reportedly became interested in the project after reading the book with his child. He sent it to John A. Davis, whose work on Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius led to the animated adaptation being developed at DNA Productions.
  • The Ant Bully was the first Warner Bros. animated feature released in IMAX 3-D. The computer-animated production was converted for the format using IMAX DMR technology.
  • DNA Productions rendered the film on a 1,400-CPU render farm. Production also involved C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures in Canada.
  • Released in 2006, the film became DNA Productions' final feature before the company closed later that year.
  • The film marked Ricardo Montalban's final theatrical movie role.
