Synopsis

As Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann face arrest for aiding Captain Jack Sparrow, their freedom depends on finding Jack's enchanted compass. Jack is meanwhile pursued by Davy Jones, who wants to collect an old blood debt and claim his soul. Their search for the key to Jones' chest draws them into shifting alliances, supernatural danger, and a confrontation with the monstrous Kraken.

• The film was released on July 7, 2006, and was produced as part of a larger story continued in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

• Principal photography ran from February 28 to September 18, 2005. Much of the third film was shot during the same extended production period.

• Davy Jones and most of the Flying Dutchman's crew were created with computer-generated effects. The crew's increasingly aquatic appearances reflect their length of service aboard the supernatural ship.

• The effects team studied sea life, including anemones and mussels, to give the Dutchman's crew more convincing movement and texture.
