Synopsis

At New York's Central Park Zoo, young lion Ryan is accidentally shipped to Africa while trying to prove himself. His worried father, Samson, sets out with a group of zoo friends to bring him home. Their rescue mission takes them across the city and into the wilderness, where Samson must confront his past and Ryan must discover what courage really means.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The film was animated primarily by Toronto-based C.O.R.E. Feature Animation, whose only animated feature was The Wild. Reel FX Creative Studios handled the opening sequence.
  • The project had been in development for years. Disney publicity materials said the story had been pitched more than nine years before the film's 2006 release.
  • An earlier version of the concept was planned as a live-action and computer-generated imagery hybrid, with animated animals placed into real-world backgrounds. It was later developed as a fully computer-animated feature.
  • The film was released theatrically in the United States on April 14, 2006, and earned more than $102 million worldwide against an $80 million budget.
  • The Wild was the last Disney theatrical release to use the 1985 Walt Disney Pictures logo after the end credits.
  • Human characters appear in the film, but their faces are never shown.
