Synopsis

After France's star soccer coach is murdered and the priceless Pink Panther diamond disappears, Inspector Jacques Clouseau is assigned to solve the case. His superiors expect him to fail, but Clouseau's eccentric methods and unwavering confidence carry him through a trail of misunderstandings, international intrigue, and slapstick chaos.

• The 2006 film is a reboot of the Pink Panther series and the tenth feature associated with the franchise.

• The opening title sequence was originally planned as computer-generated imagery. The filmmakers ultimately chose traditional hand-drawn animation, while the CGI version was retained as a DVD extra and used partly in the disc menus.

• Jackie Chan was considered for the role of Clouseau's assistant. The production instead created Ponton, a French character, rather than continuing with the original series' Cato concept.

• Clive Owen's uncredited appearance as Agent 006 plays on his former association with speculation about the James Bond role. The character also recalls Peter Sellers' appearance in the spoof Casino Royale.

• Pierce Brosnan was initially intended for the Agent 006 role, but contractual restrictions connected to his time as James Bond prevented the appearance.

• Steve Martin reportedly delayed accepting the role of Clouseau until he had developed the character's accent and tested several comic ideas.
