Synopsis

Wendy Christensen has a horrifying premonition that a roller coaster will derail and kill her classmates. After she prevents several of them from boarding, the survivors begin dying in the same order they would have died in the crash. Wendy and Kevin Fischer study photographs from the ride, searching for clues that might help them outwit Death before the pattern reaches them.

• Unlike Final Destination 2, the third film was designed as a standalone sequel with a new group of characters and no direct continuation of the earlier story.

• The film was shot in Vancouver, Canada. The Corkscrew roller coaster at Playland was used as the basis for Devil's Flight.

• The cast reportedly rode the roller coaster 26 times in one night while filming the opening premonition sequence.

• The production spent its first two weeks filming the roller coaster disaster. Most of the remaining scenes were filmed out of sequence over a three-month shoot.

• The film's original working title was Cheating Death: Final Destination 3.

• The ending was reshot after preview audiences reacted poorly to the original version. The replacement ending uses a subway train derailment.

• Tony Todd, who played William Bludworth in the first two films, supplies the voice of the devil figure above the roller coaster entrance and the subway announcement near the end.

• The Thrill Ride Edition DVD included "Choose Their Fate," an interactive feature that allowed viewers to make decisions affecting several scenes. Some sequences were filmed with alternate outcomes specifically for this feature.

• Shirley Walker returned to compose the score. The production reportedly used an informal "gore-o-meter" to help match the music's intensity to each death sequence.

• The film was initially planned as the conclusion of a trilogy, but its financial success helped lead to a fourth installment, The Final Destination, released in 2009.
