Synopsis

A shy New Orleans cookware salesclerk learns she has a terminal illness and believes she has only weeks to live. Determined not to leave her dreams unfulfilled, Georgia Byrd quits her job, spends her savings, and travels to an extravagant European resort. As she embraces luxury, adventure, and new friendships, her sudden confidence transforms the lives of everyone around her.

Factoids & Trivia

• Last Holiday is a loose remake of the 1950 British film of the same name, which starred Alec Guinness.

• Screenwriters Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman originally developed their updated version with John Candy in mind. After Candy's death in 1994, the project was later reworked around Queen Latifah.

• Much of the European resort material was filmed at the real Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The hotel also appeared in Casino Royale later in 2006.

• Chefs associated with the Food Network prepared the elaborate dishes seen in the film. Recipes for several of Georgia's meals were published as part of the film's promotion.

• The movie's closing credits continue the story by showing how the principal characters' lives turn out after the events of the film.

• The film opened in the United States on January 13, 2006, and received award nominations for Queen Latifah's performance, including recognition from the BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Teen Choice Awards.
