Synopsis

Set in Dublin on June 16, 1904, the film follows Leopold Bloom through a day of ordinary errands, private memories, marital unease and unexpected encounters. His path eventually crosses with the young Stephen Dedalus, creating a brief, father-and-son-like bond. Meanwhile, Molly Bloom reflects on her marriage, desire and the events of the day in this adaptation of James Joyce's Ulysses.

• The film is adapted from James Joyce's 1922 novel Ulysses, with its story unfolding on the date later celebrated as Bloomsday.

• The production took about 10 years to complete. The screenplay reportedly went through approximately 800 drafts, while the novel was read dozens of times during the adaptation process.

• The film attempts to translate Joyce's stream-of-consciousness writing into cinema through interior monologues, voiceovers and visualized memories.

• It premiered at the 2003 Taormina Film Festival.

• Angeline Ball received the Best Actress award at the first Irish Film and Television Awards for her performance.
