Synopsis

A mysterious fog rolls over Antonio Bay, an island community off the Oregon coast, bringing violent spirits tied to a long-hidden crime. As the town's residents struggle to survive, Elizabeth Williams, radio host Stevie Wayne, and priest Father Malone uncover the truth behind the settlement's founding and search for a way to end the haunting before the fog consumes them.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film is a modern remake of John Carpenter's 1980 horror movie. Carpenter and Debra Hill, who wrote the original, are credited for the underlying screenplay, while Carpenter also served as a producer.

• Carpenter later joked that his producer duties amounted to coming to the set, saying hello, and going home.

• Filming took place in British Columbia, Canada, including Bowen Island, Cowichan Bay, Tofino, Vancouver, and Fort Langley. Principal photography ran from March 14 through May 30, 2005.

• Selma Blair performed most of her own stunts. The underwater sequences required her to spend approximately 12 hours in a water tank on each of two consecutive days, with short breaks at the surface.

• Tom Welling's character, Nick Castle, shares his name with Nick Castle, the actor who played Michael Myers in Carpenter's Halloween.

• Julia Stiles was considered for Elizabeth during early development. The part was later rewritten as younger and more innocent before Maggie Grace joined the production.

• The theatrical version runs 100 minutes, while an unrated home-video version extends to 103 minutes.

• The movie was produced by Revolution Studios in association with Debra Hill Productions and David Foster Productions, and was released in the United States on October 14, 2005.
