Synopsis

On a California sheep ranch, Rin-Tin-Tin is blamed for killing lambs after several attacks and condemned under the harsh law of the range. His owner hides him, but the real predator is a giant condor. When the bird carries away the rancher's baby, the falsely accused dog gets a chance to prove his loyalty by rescuing the child and defeating the attacker.

• The Night Cry was released by Warner Bros. on February 27, 1926. It is a silent, black-and-white feature running approximately 70 minutes across seven reels.

• Location filming took place at a large sheep ranch near Santa Paula, California. The production reportedly worked with roughly 900 sheep.

• A South American condor used in the film weighed about 40 pounds and had a wingspan of approximately 12 feet. The bird sometimes landed on cinematographer Ed Du Par's camera and reportedly broke the camera's matte box.

• Rin-Tin-Tin had apparently never worked as a sheepdog before production began, yet he was able to gather wandering sheep during filming. He also chased away a large nanny goat that was causing problems for the crew.

• The film cost about $106,000 to produce and earned approximately $284,000, including domestic and foreign returns.

• Unlike many silent features of the period, The Night Cry survives. Existing reduction prints have circulated in 16mm and 8mm formats, and the film was screened at the 59th Cinecon Classic Film Festival in El Segundo, California, on August 31, 2023.

• The film was released under different titles in several countries, including Doddsskriget in Denmark and Rin-Tin-Tin e o Condor in Portugal.
