Synopsis
Cousins Bo and Luke Duke keep Hazzard County supplied with moonshine while trying to stay ahead of Sheriff Rosco and the scheming Boss Hogg. When Hogg plans to seize the Duke family farm and strip-mine the county, the brothers join forces with Daisy, Uncle Jesse, and local allies. Their fight leads to reckless car chases, a county-wide rally, and the General Lee's biggest leap yet.
Factoids & Trivia
- The film is a loose big-screen adaptation of the television series, which itself was inspired by the 1975 film Moonrunners.
- Principal photography began on November 15, 2004, and much of the production took place in Louisiana, including Clinton, French Settlement, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.
- Louisiana State University's agricultural research station was used for many of the car jumps and chase sequences. The production leased the site during its off-season.
- The New Orleans location known as Lee Circle appears in the drifting sequence involving the General Lee. The monument's placement creates a visual gag in which the statue seems to look down on the car.
- Jessica Simpson's recording of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" served as the film's first soundtrack single. The performance uses new lyrics written from Daisy Duke's perspective.
- The film opened on August 5, 2005, with a domestic weekend of more than $30 million and eventually earned over $109 million worldwide.
- Despite its commercial performance, the film received generally negative reviews and was nominated in seven categories at the 26th Golden Raspberry Awards.
- A standalone prequel, The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning, followed in 2007.
