Synopsis

After another breakup, single mother Jean Hamilton prepares to move her two daughters yet again. Determined to give her mother a reason to stay, teenager Holly invents an ideal secret admirer, using a local restaurateur as the model. The scheme grows increasingly complicated when Jean takes the online romance seriously and Holly develops feelings of her own.

• The story was inspired by screenwriter Heather Robinson's experiences as a teenager in Tucson, Arizona, where she tried to help her single mother find love.

• Although the story is set in New York City, much of the film was shot in Toronto. New York locations included Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Brooklyn Heights.

• Principal photography took place from April 29 through July 2004.

• Hilary Duff's mother, Susan Duff, was one of the film's producers.

• The soundtrack was released by Curb Records on June 14, 2005, three days before the film's United States theatrical release. It contains 12 songs, including tracks by Howie Day, Kaci, Kimberley Locke, and Dennis DeYoung. Duff does not perform on the album.

• Carson Kressley missed two days of filming for the film because production ran beyond its expected schedule. At the time, he was also appearing on the television series "Queer Eye."

• Made for an estimated $10 million, the film earned approximately $19.8 million worldwide. Its critical reception was notably poor, with a 6 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 27 Metascore.
