Factoids & Trivia
- The film is a contemporary, gender-reversed reworking of the premise of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967): this time, a Black woman introduces her white fiance to her family.
- William Rose, who wrote the original Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, received a writing credit because of Writers Guild of America rules, although he had no direct involvement in the 2005 production.
- Simon was initially considered as a Jewish character, which would have added an interfaith dimension to the story. The idea was dropped so the screenplay could remain focused on interracial romance.
- Digital effects were reportedly used to remove a red Kabbalah bracelet from Simon in many scenes. The post-production work was said to have cost approximately $100,000.
- Principal photography began in June 2004, with filming locations including New York City, Cranford and Madison, New Jersey, and Alhambra and Santa Fe Springs, California.
- Released in the United States on March 25, 2005, the film earned more than $103 million worldwide against a reported $35 million production budget.
