Synopsis

Six months after escaping Seattle, Rachel Keller and her young son Aidan settle in Astoria, Oregon, hoping to leave the cursed videotape behind. When a local death recalls the tape's deadly pattern, Rachel realizes that Samara has followed them. As Aidan begins suffering terrifying symptoms, Rachel must uncover the spirit's connection to her son and confront the curse once more.

• The film continues the American adaptation of Koji Suzuki's Ring story, following The Ring (2002), which was itself based on the Japanese film Ringu.

• Production took place in Astoria, Oregon, and Los Angeles, with filming running from May 13 to November 1, 2004.

• The movie marked Mary Elizabeth Winstead's feature-film debut.

• The original US release date was planned for November 10, 2004, but DreamWorks moved it to March 18, 2005.

• The theatrical version was edited for a PG-13 rating. An unrated DVD edition restored approximately 18 minutes of additional footage, including expanded material involving Samara, Aidan, and Rachel's new neighbors.
