Factoids & Trivia
- The screenplay was based on a story by Meg Cabot, best known for creating *The Princess Diaries*, and was written by Hadley Davis.
- Production took place in Toronto, Ontario, and surrounding locations from May 3 through July 23, 2004. George Bell Arena served as one of the competition locations.
- Michelle Trachtenberg had no prior skating background and trained for much of a year for the role. Skating doubles handled many of the falls and technically difficult elements, while Trachtenberg performed selected movements herself.
- The pond used for Casey's early skating scenes was not a natural frozen pond. It was a custom-built ice surface created specifically for the production.
- A physics formula spoken by Casey originally contained an error. The mistake was corrected during post-production by re-recording the dialogue over a shot that did not show her face.
- Released in the United States on March 18, 2005, the film earned approximately $27.6 million worldwide against a reported $25 million production budget.
