Synopsis

After being resurrected and trained in a mystical martial art, Elektra Natchios becomes a highly skilled contract assassin. When she is hired to eliminate a father and his young daughter, she instead chooses to protect them from the deadly Hand. The assignment forces Elektra to confront her violent past, recover her humanity, and decide what kind of person she wants to become.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Elektra is a spin-off of Daredevil (2003), continuing the story of the character after her apparent death in that film.
  • Production began in Vancouver in May 2004. Jennifer Garner filmed the movie during a break in production on her television series Alias, which placed a tight limit on the schedule.
  • Garner underwent extensive physical preparation for the role, including cardiovascular workouts, resistance training, stretching, kickboxing, and martial arts practice. She also trained with Elektra's signature sai weapons.
  • Ben Affleck filmed a brief appearance as Matt Murdock, but the cameo was removed from the theatrical version. The deleted material was later made available as a home-video extra.
  • The film's music was composed by Christophe Beck, whose score combines orchestral writing with darker supernatural and action-oriented themes.
  • The theatrical cut runs approximately 97 minutes. An unrated director's cut was later released with additional and extended material.
  • Elektra received mostly negative reviews and performed modestly at the box office. Its reputation has since been discussed alongside the more favorable later television interpretation of the character.
  • Jennifer Garner returned to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), giving the 2005 film a renewed place in the character's screen history.
