Synopsis

Alfie is a charming but emotionally detached limousine driver who moves through New York pursuing pleasure without commitment. His carefree routine begins to unravel as casual relationships create painful consequences, forcing him to confront loneliness, aging, and the damage caused by his selfishness. Inspired by the 1966 British classic, the film reframes Alfie's womanizing worldview for a modern American setting.

• The film is a modern reinvention of the 1966 British film Alfie, with Jude Law taking the role previously played by Michael Caine.

• This was the first of two films in which Jude Law played a role originated by Michael Caine. The second was Sleuth in 2007.

• Much of the New York setting was created in England. Manchester and Liverpool doubled for parts of Manhattan, while additional scenes were filmed on location in New York.

• The costume design drew inspiration from the slim suits worn by the Beatles in A Hard Day's Night. Alfie's brown sweater was reportedly Jude Law's own.

• The blue-and-white Vespa reflects Law's support for the soccer club Tottenham Hotspur.

• During the scene in which Alfie punches a car windshield, Law cracked the glass after being encouraged to imagine that he was striking the paparazzi.
