Factoids & Trivia
- The film was conceived by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright while both were living in north London. They wanted to bring a zombie apocalypse into familiar suburban streets rather than an exotic or heavily stylized setting.
- Most of the movie was filmed in north London, including Crouch End, Highgate, Finsbury Park, and East Finchley. The Winchester's exterior was actually the Duke of Albany pub in New Cross, south London, while the pub interiors were built at Ealing Studios.
- The film is often described as a "rom-zom-com," combining romantic comedy with zombie horror. Its title also signals its affectionate relationship with George A. Romero's Dead films.
- Romero was impressed by the movie and invited Pegg and Wright to appear as chained zombies in his 2005 film *Land of the Dead*.
- The repeated jokes, recurring lines, and visual callbacks were deliberately structured into the screenplay. The jukebox sequence, in which Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" accompanies a fight, became one of the film's most recognizable scenes.
- Pegg and Wright discussed a possible follow-up involving a different kind of monster, but decided that the original worked better as a self-contained story.
