Synopsis

A team of scientists travels to Borneo in search of the Blood Orchid, a rare flower believed to extend human life. Their expedition quickly turns deadly when their river route collapses and they encounter giant anacondas guarding the jungle. As the survivors struggle through flooded forests and treacherous terrain, personal ambition and betrayal become nearly as dangerous as the predators pursuing them.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The film is a stand-alone sequel to the 1997 movie Anaconda and the second theatrical entry in the franchise.
  • The fictional flower is identified by the scientific-sounding name Perrinia immortalis. Sony's promotional material presents it as a rare plant holding the secret of eternal life and enormous value to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Story credit went to Hans Bauer, Jim Cash, and Jack Epps Jr., the writers of the original Anaconda. The screenplay was developed by John Claflin, Daniel Zelman, Michael Miner, and Edward Neumeier.
  • Although the story is set in Borneo, production filming took place largely in Fiji, including the Navua River and Deuba. Waterfall exteriors were filmed in New Zealand.
  • Principal photography began on August 31, 2003, and continued through October of that year.
  • The movie was released in the United States on August 27, 2004. Made with a reported production budget of about $25 million, it earned approximately $70 million worldwide.

  • The film was followed by the made-for-television sequel Anaconda 3: Offspring in 2008.
