Synopsis

In the year 2304, Mars has been colonized and its ruler plans to conquer Earth. The crew of the spaceship Surprise must travel back to 2004 and prevent the invasion. Their mission becomes increasingly chaotic as time travel sends them through medieval England and the Wild West, where they encounter broken machinery, hostile pursuers, and a series of absurd complications.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film grew out of the television comedy show Bullyparade. Michael Herbig asked viewers to choose his next movie project, with the space adventure receiving the most votes over several competing ideas.

• The title plays on the German words Raumschiff ("spaceship") and Traumschiff ("dream ship"), while also evoking the German title of Star Trek, Raumschiff Enterprise.

• The production parodies a wide range of science-fiction and adventure films, including Star Trek, Star Wars, Back to the Future, The Fifth Element, Independence Day, Men in Black, and A Knight's Tale.

• Filming took place in Munich and at the Fort Bravo film studio in Almeria, Spain. The Spanish location had previously been used extensively for Western productions.

• The film's closing song, "Space Taxi," became a successful single in German-speaking Europe, reaching No. 2 in Germany and Austria and No. 7 in Switzerland.
