Synopsis

Los Angeles cab driver Max Durocher accepts a lucrative fare from Vincent, a seemingly confident businessman who asks to visit several destinations during one night. Max soon discovers that Vincent is a professional hit man and that each stop is part of a deadly assignment. Forced to keep driving, Max must find the courage to resist Vincent while police close in on both men.

Factoids & Trivia

• Screenwriter Stuart Beattie conceived the basic idea after taking a taxi home from Sydney Airport and imagining a hit man sitting in the back seat.

• Michael Mann used digital cameras extensively to capture Los Angeles at night. The technology allowed the production to work in extremely low light and became part of the film's distinctive visual style rather than simply imitating the appearance of film.

• Most of the night exteriors were shot digitally, while roughly 20 percent of the picture was filmed on 35mm. The controlled interior sequences, including the nightclub shootout, were among the scenes photographed on film.

• Jason Statham appears briefly at the beginning as the man who hands Vincent his package at the airport. He is credited only as Airport Man, although the scene has encouraged speculation about a connection to his character from *The Transporter* films.

• The film earned two Academy Award nominations at the 77th Academy Awards: Jamie Foxx for Supporting Actor and the editing team for Film Editing.
