Synopsis

Garfield, a lazy, sarcastic cat who enjoys food and comfort, is unsettled when his owner Jon brings home Odie, a friendly dog. After Garfield's jealousy leads to trouble, Odie disappears, leaving Garfield to confront the consequences of his actions. Forced beyond his usual routine, Garfield sets out to find Odie and restore peace at home.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Released on June 11, 2004, the film arrived shortly before the 25th anniversary of the Garfield comic strip's debut.
  • The movie combines live-action photography with a computer-animated Garfield. Odie, by contrast, was portrayed by a real dog and does not speak.
  • Bill Murray provided Garfield's voice, giving the character a dry, conversational delivery that echoes the comic strip's thought bubbles.
  • The film was produced on a reported $50 million budget and earned more than $200 million worldwide.
  • Despite poor reviews from critics, its commercial performance led to the 2006 sequel Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.
  • The story expands the strip's basic domestic setup into a conventional feature-length pet adventure while retaining familiar elements such as Garfield's appetite, laziness, and dislike of Mondays.
