Synopsis

After surviving a brutal wedding-day ambush, the Bride awakens from a four-year coma and begins hunting the former members of her assassination squad. Her first targets lead her from suburban California to Tokyo, where she confronts the ruthless O-Ren Ishii and battles an army of yakuza enforcers. The film ends with the Bride's revenge campaign still underway.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The film was conceived as one production with Kill Bill: Volume 2. The combined story ran for more than four hours, prompting the decision to release it as two separate films.
  • The Bride character originated in conversations between Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman during the making of Pulp Fiction. The story credit for the character is presented as "Q & U."
  • The anime sequence depicting O-Ren Ishii's history was produced by Production I.G., the Japanese studio known for Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire.
  • The yellow jumpsuit worn by the Bride pays homage to Bruce Lee's outfit in Game of Death.
  • The baseball-cutting shot was performed practically on set by stunt performer Zoe Bell, who served as Thurman's stunt double.
  • The Crazy 88s sequence was presented in black and white in the United States to help the film receive an R rating instead of an NC-17.
  • The soundtrack combines RZA's original material with recordings ranging from Japanese garage rock and disco to enka and spaghetti-western music.
  • The film was released in the United States on October 10, 2003, and Volume 2 followed six months later.
