Synopsis

Marine veterinarian Henry Roth is content with casual romances until he meets Lucy Whitmore, an art teacher who seems perfect for him. The next day, however, Lucy does not remember meeting him because a condition erases her short-term memory each night. Henry must find increasingly creative ways to introduce himself and rebuild their relationship, turning every day into a new first date.

Factoids & Trivia

• The screenplay was originally titled "Fifty First Kisses." The title was changed to "50 First Dates" after marketing concerns that "kisses" might appeal less to male moviegoers.

• George Wing's original screenplay was reportedly more dramatic. Adam Sandler helped reshape it into a romantic comedy and moved the story's setting from Seattle to Hawaii.

• Most of the production was filmed on Oahu, including locations at Kualoa Ranch, Sea Life Park, and the North Shore. Some interiors were filmed on Los Angeles sets dressed to resemble Hawaii.

• The film's walrus character, Jocko, appears in scenes supervised by animal handlers. American Humane monitored the production's animal work.

• The movie reunited Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore after "The Wedding Singer." They later worked together again in "Blended" (2014).
