Synopsis

After an attack on the Sanctuary leaves Connor MacLeod exposed, his kinsman Duncan is drawn into a renewed conflict with Jacob Kell, an immortal who has spent centuries gathering power and seeking revenge. Connor and Duncan must overcome old wounds, divided loyalties, and Kell's formidable allies before confronting an enemy too powerful for either Highlander to face alone.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film was conceived as a bridge between the Highlander television series and its spin-off, Highlander: The Raven. The cancellation of The Raven and scheduling problems involving the cast disrupted those plans.

• Filming took place from October 22, 1999, through March 7, 2000. Although the story has strong Scottish associations, much of the production was filmed in Romania, with additional location work in Scotland.

• Early screenplay drafts used the titles Highlander IV: The Immortals, Highlander: The Search for Connor, and Highlander: World Without End. They also differed substantially from the finished film: Kate was originally called Alexis, and several flashbacks were set in Shanghai rather than Ireland.

• The cemetery meeting between Connor and Duncan was originally performed in French. During post-production, the dialogue was changed to Scots Gaelic.

• Dimension Films pushed for a faster theatrical version, leading to the removal of exposition and character material. The resulting 87-minute cut was criticized for being difficult for viewers unfamiliar with the franchise to follow.

• A longer home-video version restored material that clarified the mythology and relationships. Different territories received different cuts, making the film's home-video history unusually complicated.

• The production had an estimated budget of $25 million and earned approximately $15.8 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
