Synopsis

After a prisoner transport plane crashes, Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard is assigned to recapture Mark Sheridan, a fugitive accused of murder. The pursuit takes Gerard and his team from Chicago through the American Midwest, while Sheridan insists he has been framed. As the investigation develops, Gerard begins to question the official story and the motives of the government agents involved.

Factoids & Trivia

• U.S. Marshals is a sequel to The Fugitive (1993), but it shifts the focus from Richard Kimble to Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard. Harrison Ford's character does not appear.

• The prisoner-transfer plane was designed rather than copied directly from a real aircraft. The filmmakers found that actual transport planes looked too ordinary, so they created the visible restraints, cage door, locking mechanisms and open toilet seen in the film.

• Gerard's disguise was originally written as a priest's outfit. The production changed it to the memorable chicken costume because the filmmakers felt the priest disguise was not distinctive enough.

• The film opened in the United States on March 6, 1998. It earned approximately $102.4 million worldwide, against a reported production budget of $45 million.

• Warner Bros.' 1998 special-edition DVD included the behind-the-scenes featurette Anatomy of a Plane Crash, the historical featurette Justice Under the Star, production notes, trailers, television spots and commentary.
