Synopsis

After oil tycoon Sir Robert King is assassinated, James Bond is assigned to protect his daughter, Elektra, from terrorist Renard, the man who once kidnapped her. Following a trail through the oil industry, Bond joins forces with nuclear physicist Christmas Jones and former KGB agent Valentin Zukovsky. Their investigation uncovers a plan involving a pipeline, a nuclear submarine, and Istanbul.

Factoids & Trivia

• The title translates the Latin phrase "Orbis non sufficit," which appears as the Bond family motto in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

• The pre-title boat chase was filmed in London, including locations around the River Thames and Shadwell. The sequence was part of a production that also traveled to Spain, France, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Pinewood Studios.

• The production dates ran from January 11 through June 25, 1999. The film premiered in Los Angeles on November 8, 1999, before its US release on November 19.

• British intelligence initially objected to filming around the real MI6 headquarters because of security concerns. Foreign Secretary Robin Cook ultimately allowed the production to proceed.

• Garbage performed the title song, written by David Arnold and Don Black. Another song with the same title, recorded by the band Straw, was rejected.

• Desmond Llewelyn's appearance as Q was his final Bond film. The home-video release included a tribute to him after his death in a car accident shortly after the film's release.

• Electronic Arts adapted the film into separate first-person shooter games for the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation in 2000. The planned PC and PlayStation 2 versions were canceled.
