Synopsis

After her father, a knight of Camelot, disappears while defending Excalibur, Kayley vows to recover the legendary sword and restore it to King Arthur. Joined by the blind knight Garrett and a pair of comic dragons, she enters the dangerous Forbidden Forest, where the villainous Ruber seeks to seize the weapon and destroy the kingdom. Their journey tests courage, loyalty, and the meaning of true knighthood.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film was loosely based on Vera Chapman's 1976 novel The King's Damosel, but its story was substantially reshaped for a family-oriented animated musical.

• It was Warner Bros. Feature Animation's first fully animated theatrical feature. Production began before the story was finalized, and the release was delayed from November 14, 1997, to May 15, 1998.

• Animators were temporarily reassigned to complete Space Jam, adding to the production difficulties. Earlier versions of the project reportedly centered on a quest for the Holy Grail before Excalibur became the story's central object.

• "The Prayer," written by David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and received an Academy Award nomination. The soundtrack used separate English and Italian performances by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli; their famous duet was released later in 1998.
