Synopsis

Separated shortly after birth, identical twins Hallie Parker and Annie James grow up on opposite sides of the Atlantic without knowing about each other. They meet unexpectedly at summer camp and quickly realize the truth. After trading places, the sisters devise an elaborate plan to reunite their divorced parents and prevent their father from marrying an unsuitable fiancee.

• The film is a remake of Disney's 1961 comedy and ultimately traces its story to Erich Kastner's 1949 German children's novel Lisa and Lottie.

• Lindsay Lohan made her feature-film debut by playing both Hallie and Annie. More than 1,500 young actresses reportedly submitted audition tapes for the roles before Lohan was selected.

• The twin scenes were created through motion-control photography, repeated performances, careful compositing, and the use of Erin Mackey as Lohan's body double.

• Camp Walden was filmed at Camp Seely in Crestline, California. The Parker family's vineyard home was filmed at Staglin Family Vineyard in Rutherford, in Napa Valley.

• The twins' names were taken from the first names of the filmmakers' daughters. Both daughters appear in small cameo roles, and the film is dedicated to Hallie Meyers-Shyer.

• Principal photography began in London on July 15, 1997, and continued in California through December 17, 1997.
