Synopsis

Three young delinquents avoid prison by agreeing to work undercover for the police. Julie, Pete, and Linc are assigned to Captain Greer, who is investigating stolen cocaine and a network of corrupt officers. When Greer is murdered, the inexperienced trio become targets themselves and must expose the conspiracy, survive the criminals pursuing them, and clear their names.

Factoids & Trivia

• The film is a contemporary feature adaptation of the ABC crime series that ran from 1968 to 1973. The original show's counterculture setting was updated to late-1990s Los Angeles.

• Stacy Title was initially attached to direct, but left the project after creative differences. Scott Silver subsequently took over and rewrote the screenplay.

• Filming took place in Los Angeles and nearby locations from May 4 through July 2, 1998. The Sixth Street Viaduct, Hermosa Beach, Malibu, and the Saharan Motor Hotel on Sunset Boulevard were among the locations used.

• The clothing was specially customized and supplied by Levi's. The company also used the film's young leads in denim advertising around the time of its release.

• The original television trio were not given cameo appearances. The filmmakers reportedly decided that placing the former stars in minor roles might distract from the new version rather than function as a meaningful tribute.

• Released by MGM on March 26, 1999, the 92-minute film was poorly received and earned less than its reported $21 million production budget, becoming a commercial disappointment.

• The movie received a Razzie nomination for Worst Screenplay and four nominations at the 1999 Stinkers Bad Movie Awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Resurrection of a TV Show.
