Synopsis

Police officer Emilien and taxi driver Daniel reunite when a Japanese defense minister is kidnapped by yakuza during an official visit to Marseille. With Emilien's girlfriend Petra also taken hostage, the unlikely partners pursue the gang from Marseille to Paris, combining police work, improvised tactics, and Daniel's extraordinary driving skills to prevent a terrorist provocation during the July 14 celebrations.

• The sequel followed the major French success of the original Taxi and was released in France in March 2000.

• Taxi 2 reportedly opened in France with 836 prints, setting a national release record at the time and surpassing the previous record held by Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

• A serious accident occurred during the filming of a stunt in August 1999. A Peugeot 406 missed its intended landing area after jumping over military tanks and struck members of the crew. Cameraman Alain Dutartre later died from his injuries, while assistant Jean-Michel Bar was seriously injured.

• The soundtrack uses Bill Conti's "Gonna Fly Now," the best-known theme from Rocky.
