Synopsis

During an unusually heavy snowfall in Syracuse, New York, the Brandston family and their neighbors enjoy an unexpected day off from school. Teenager Hal pursues Claire, the girl he likes, while his younger sister Natalie leads a campaign to keep the snow day going by taking on the city's feared snowplow driver. At home, their parents and youngest son discover their own wintry adventure.

• The film was produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures. Released on February 11, 2000, it was made for an estimated $13 million and earned approximately $62.5 million worldwide.

• The screenplay was originally conceived as a feature-length continuation of *The Adventures of Pete & Pete*. The project was later rewritten as an independent story, although its offbeat humor and suburban-kid perspective retain traces of that earlier concept.

• Although the story is set in Syracuse, New York, much of the production took place in Alberta, Canada, including Edmonton and Calgary. The exterior of the fictional television station was filmed in Edmonton, and local news professionals appeared as on-screen broadcasters.

• Production trivia reports that the artificial snow used for close-up shots came from a snow machine loaned by the city of Los Angeles. The machine used treated sewage water to create the falling snow.

• A real bank robbery reportedly occurred near one of the filming locations. The fleeing robbers drove onto the set, became stuck in a fake snowdrift, and were arrested shortly afterward.

• Hoku's "Another Dumb Blonde" was released as the film's prominent soundtrack single. It reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her only Top 40 hit.

• The music video for "Another Dumb Blonde" combines Hoku's performance with footage from the film, including a scene involving the whale ankle bracelet from the movie's romantic storyline.

• A musical remake of *Snow Day* was released on Paramount+ in 2022.
