Synopsis

Ten years after high school, best friends Romy and Michele live together in Los Angeles and feel dissatisfied with their direction in life. Determined to impress their former classmates at an upcoming reunion, they invent glamorous careers and travel home with an elaborate story about having invented Post-it Notes. Their plan begins to unravel as old rivalries, insecurities, and romantic tensions resurface.

• The screenplay grew out of Robin Schiff's play Ladies Room. Schiff later adapted its characters and comic situations for the feature film.

• The Post-it Notes gag began with Schiff's idea that a mundane invention could make Romy and Michele seem unexpectedly wealthy. She has explained that the success of the woman associated with Wite-Out helped inspire the joke.
