Synopsis

In a Hoboken restaurant overlooking Manhattan, a group of young servers and entertainers struggle to balance artistic ambitions, romantic entanglements, and racial tensions. Bartender and aspiring playwright Chris Calloway draws on a painful breakup for his first play, but the return of his former girlfriend and the arrival of her new partner threaten both his relationship with Jeanine and his creative plans.

• The film was shot in just 28 days in New Jersey and New York, beginning on May 5, 1997.

• The restaurant scenes were filmed inside an actual upscale Hoboken restaurant that had recently changed owners and been renovated. The owners kept the production's fictional name, J.T. McClure's, after filming ended. The location is now known as the Madison Bar & Grill.

• The film's New Jersey setting allowed the production to include skyline views of Manhattan across the Hudson River.

• Photographer Sylvia Plachy took the production stills. She is Adrien Brody's mother.

• The production was financed privately with a budget described at the time as being below seven figures.

• The film premiered at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in 1998 and later received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Adrien Brody's performance.
