Synopsis

Punktchen, the lonely daughter of wealthy parents, and Anton, a boy struggling to support his ill mother, form an inseparable friendship despite their different circumstances. When Anton's family faces mounting financial trouble, Punktchen secretly performs in the streets to help him. Their actions eventually expose the neglect and problems hidden within both families, forcing the adults to reconsider their priorities.

• The film is a modern adaptation of Erich Kastner's 1931 children's novel, updating several details while preserving its central themes of friendship, class difference, and adult responsibility.

• Unlike the book's version of Punktchen's street performance, the film has her singing in downtown Munich while her parents attend the opera.

• Filming took place between June 23 and August 21, 1998, in Munich and the surrounding area, on the island of Sylt, and in Namibia.

• The production was made with Bavaria Film, Lunaris Film, and ZDF, and was distributed theatrically in Germany by Buena Vista International.
