Synopsis

After his son is killed by a violent street gang, John Bookman returns to Gary, Indiana, the hometown he left behind. He reconnects with former neighborhood allies and helps organize resistance against the Rebels, a younger generation ruling the streets through intimidation. As the conflict escalates, the aging ex-gang members fight to reclaim their community and restore a sense of order.

• The film was shot and set in Gary, Indiana, a former steel town. Gary was also the birthplace of producer and star Fred Williamson.

• The production received unusually strong cooperation from the city, including permission to demolish and explode a block of abandoned houses for the film.

• Real Gary gang members were hired as extras and participants. Director Larry Cohen later recalled that they arrived reliably each day and worked cooperatively with the production.
