Synopsis

Gonzo has always been unsure where he belongs, but a series of mysterious messages convinces him that he may be an alien from another world. When a government agency captures him for study, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets launch a rescue mission. Their journey brings Gonzo closer to discovering his origins - and realizing that family may be found in unexpected places.

Factoids & Trivia

• The story grew from Gonzo's longing for a place where he belonged, an idea connected to his song "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" from The Muppet Movie.

• An earlier screenplay, titled Muppets in Space, used a different premise in which aliens mistakenly believed Kermit was their leader.

• Filming began in November 1998 at Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, North Carolina.

• Frank Oz was unavailable for much of the production because of scheduling commitments. Other puppeteers performed his characters on set, while Oz supplied many of the voices later.

• Scooter returned to a theatrical Muppet production after last appearing in the theme-park attraction Muppet*Vision 3D in 1991. Adam Hunt, brother of Scooter's original performer Richard Hunt, provided the character's voice.

• The film's soundtrack emphasized classic soul and funk recordings rather than a traditional collection of newly written Muppet songs.

• Muppets from Space was released on July 14, 1999. It was the sixth theatrical Muppet feature and the final one produced by the Jim Henson Company before Disney acquired the Muppets franchise.
